What does the date on a container mean?: The “Sell By” date on the packaging of a food product indicates the last day that the product can be sold. The “sell by” date tells the retailer how long to display a product. It guides the rotation of shelf stock and allows time for the product to be stored and used at home. The date is quality driven, not a food safety concern.
How long will the product last after the “Sell By” date?: Dairy products are very perishable. For best quality, you should use the product before the expiration or “Sell By” date. However, if properly refrigerated, the milk will usually still be good for several days after its Sell By date.
Can milk be frozen?: Milk can be frozen if put into the freezer on or before the sell by date. Milk can freeze for about one month and must thaw in the refrigerator.
